Cookies and Tracking Technologies: How Cookies Are Used

I explain what cookies are, how I use them, and how you can manage your preferences.

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are and how I use them on ryanbwebb.co.uk.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They can help a site function properly, improve security and performance, and (where enabled) support analytics and advertising/marketing measurement. Similar technologies (such as pixels and local storage) may be used for similar purposes; I refer to these collectively as “cookies” in this policy.

2. How I use cookies on ryanbwebb.co.uk

I use cookies for:

  • Strictly necessary purposes (site operation and security); and

  • Analytics (to understand how the site is used and improve it); and

  • Marketing/social tracking (only where enabled, to measure advertising and improve targeting on platforms such as Meta (Facebook/Instagram), TikTok, Pinterest and similar).

Where required by UK law (including PECR), I only set non-essential cookies (such as analytics and marketing) after you provide consent via the cookie banner/settings.

3. Google Tag Manager and Google Search Console

Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tag management tool used to deploy other tags (for example analytics and marketing tags). GTM itself does not typically set cookies, but the tags deployed via GTM may set cookies as described below.

Google Search Console (GSC) is used by me to monitor site performance in Google Search. GSC does not place cookies on your device simply because it is used by the site owner.
